It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Prof. Dr. Jack Katz, a pioneering figure in the science of audiology and a teacher and source of inspiration for countless professionals.
Dr. Katz shaped the field of audiology worldwide with his groundbreaking work, particularly on central auditory processing disorders and diagnostic tools such as the Staggered Spondaic Word (SSW) test. As the editor of the "Handbook of Clinical Audiology," regarded as the "bible" of the field and translated into Turkish as "Temel Klinik Odyoloji," he created a cornerstone reference for generations of audiologists, making an invaluable contribution to our professional development.
Prof. Dr. Jack Katz also holds a special and unique place in the history of audiology in Turkey. During the foundational years of audiology in our country, he was invited, along with Dr. Richard Israel, to teach in the first master's and doctoral programs that began at Hacettepe University in 1968, playing a direct role in educating the first audiology specialists in Turkey.
After a life dedicated to science, education, and clinical practice, Dr. Katz will always be remembered for his passion and dedication to every patient and student.
The profound legacy he leaves behind will continue to guide us always.
Our deepest condolences to the entire audiology community. May he rest in peace.
