Abstract

Aim

It is important to assess the impact of music on the quality of life of cochlear implant (CI) users. The aim of this study is to adapt the music-related quality of life questionnaire into Turkish for adult CI users and to test its validity.

Method

The study included 161 CI users and 162 normal-hearing adults. The final Turkish version of the questionnaire was prepared and evaluated for validity and reliability. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were examined with Cronbach's α and the ICC index. Factor analysis and the 'known groups' method were used for construct validity.

Results

Conclusion

The Turkish version of the questionnaire has good validity and reliability; it can be used to examine the relationship between music and quality of life, as a diagnostic tool to identify individuals in need of music support, and to guide and evaluate music rehabilitation.

Highlights

  • The MRQoL questionnaire was adapted into Turkish in 161 CI users and 162 normal-hearing adults.
  • The reliability coefficient was at least 0.80; internal consistency was excellent.
  • Confirmatory factor analysis supported the construct validity of the scale.
  • The scale can be used as a clinical tool to guide music rehabilitation.
