Description

This scale was developed to measure individuals' susceptibility to motion sickness (VIMS) experienced when exposed to visual stimuli (virtual reality, simulators, smartphones, etc.). It consists of 3 parts: 1) the severity of five core symptoms (nausea, headache, dizziness, fatigue, eye strain), 2) the frequency of avoiding technological devices due to these symptoms, 3) an open-ended listing of triggering devices. Scoring ranges from 0–18; a higher score indicates greater susceptibility.

Measured Properties

Individual susceptibility to visually induced motion sickness (VIMS), symptom severity (oculomotor and autonomic symptoms), and avoidance behaviors.

Target Population

Adults who use visual technologies (virtual reality, simulators, screens, etc.)
