Odyoloji Dünyasının Duayeni Dr. Jack Katz'ı Kaybettik

We have learned with great sadness of the passing of Prof. Dr. Jack Katz, one of the pioneering figures of audiology, a mentor and source of inspiration to countless specialists.

Dr. Katz shaped the science of audiology worldwide through his groundbreaking work, particularly on central auditory processing disorders and diagnostic tools such as the Staggered Spondaic Word (SSW) test. As the editor of the Handbook of Clinical Audiology — regarded as the field's "bible" and translated into Turkish as "Temel Klinik Odyoloji" — he provided a reference for generations of audiologists.

Prof. Dr. Jack Katz also holds a special and distinct place in Turkish audiology. In the early years when the foundations of audiology were being laid in our country, he was invited to Türkiye together with Dr. Richard Israel in 1968 to teach in the first master's and doctoral programs launched at Hacettepe University, and he personally took part in training the first specialists in Turkish audiology.

Having departed after a life devoted to science, education and clinical practice, Dr. Katz will always be remembered for his passion for every patient and student. The valuable legacy he left behind will continue to guide us always.

Our condolences to the entire audiology community. May he rest in peace.
