Audiologist Sema Satıcı has graduated from the Marmara University Doctoral Program in Audiology and Speech Disorders!
Sema Satıcı earned the title of "Doctor" by successfully defending her thesis titled "Examination of the Relationship Between Hidden Hearing Loss and Cognitive Skills in Young Adults," supervised by Prof. Dr. Ali Cemal Yumuşakhuylu.
We congratulate our esteemed colleague Dr. Sema Satıcı and wish her continued contributions.
Aim: To investigate whether listening to music at high levels through headphones contributes to hidden hearing loss (HHL) in young adults, and whether listening effort and cognitive skills differ according to headphone exposure.
Findings: Signs of noise-induced cochlear synaptopathy were observed in the high-risk group; as the signal-to-noise ratio decreased, listening effort increased and the P300 amplitude decreased significantly. No significant difference was found between the groups on cognitive tests.
Conclusion: The findings support the hypothesis that listening to loud music through headphones may lead to hidden hearing loss.
