The Preschool Language Scale-5 (PLS-5) is an individually administered test used to determine whether children aged 0 to 7 years 11 months have a language delay or disorder. The test assesses children's receptive language (auditory comprehension) and expressive language (communication) skills through two separate standard scales. In addition to these scales, it includes supplementary measures such as an Articulation Screener and a Home Communication Questionnaire. Through this study conducted in Türkiye, the test was translated and adapted into Turkish, with validity and reliability analyses conducted, and released as the "Turkish Preschool Language Scale-5" (TPLS-5).
The child's receptive language (level of language comprehension) and expressive language (how they communicate with others); semantics (vocabulary and concepts), language structure (morphology and syntax), and the integration of language skills (pragmatic language skills); and emerging areas such as understanding gestures, playing, developing literacy, phonological awareness, and theory of mind.
